Home > Research > New Data about Breastfeeding Rates in Kansas

The CDC recently released breastfeeding data from the latest National Immunization Survey (NIS) for babies born in 2013.

Good news for Kansas!!  Highlights include:

  • Babies being breastfed at one year of age increased dramatically to 32.4%, up 9.3% from last year
  • Kansas moved to 24th in the nation for babies being breastfed at a year, up from 37th last year

Call to action – While breastfeeding rates continue to improve in Kansas, other states are improving faster and Kansas is falling behind in the national rankings. We must continue building communities supportive of breastfeeding across all sectors, strengthening collaborations and finding new partners.
