Brenda Bandy, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), is a founding member and past president of the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition, Inc. (KBC) where she currently serves as the Executive Director. She represents the Mountain Plains region of state breastfeeding coalitions at the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) and is a former Board member of the USBC.
Brenda Bandy oversees the programs of the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition, including the Community Supporting Breastfeeding designation recognizing communities providing a multifaceted approach to breastfeeding support; the Kansas Business Case for Breastfeeding to address workplace support for breastfeeding employees; Child Care Provider Education to improve breastfeeding support in the early childhood education setting and the Building Local Breastfeeding Coalitions program to help local communities form and sustain breastfeeding coalitions. She speaks to a variety of groups in Kansas showing individuals how they can make breastfeeding easier, using the Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding as a framework. She was instrumental in passing the Kansas public breastfeeding law in 2005. Brenda is an active member of the advisory committee for “High 5 for Mom & Baby”, a statewide maternity care improvement program. She has a passion for bringing people together to remove barriers to breastfeeding and serves on many committees and coalitions.
