Sapphire Garcia-Lies is a community-based doula and the proud mother of five children. She began her journey as an activist and community advocate just a couple months after her daughter, Ella, passed away due to medical negligence. In the years since Ella’s death, Sapphire has fought for racial equity in maternal and infant health by empowering parents and calling for accountability within medical systems. In 2020, Sapphire founded The Wichita Birth Justice Society with the goal of eliminating Wichita’s racial disparities in maternal and infant health. She takes great pleasure in working towards a more equitable future for all of Kansas’ parents and babies!
