About Carmen Valverde
Carmen Valverde is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and the founder of Lactancia Latina en el Suroeste de Kansas (LLSWKS). She serves as the Program Coordinator for the KBC, overseeing KBC’s many programs including Becoming the Lactation Support Provider You Want to Be and the Color-Filled Clinical Lactation Training program.
In 2022, Carmen received the Cultural Changemaker Award from the U.S. Breastfeeding Committee for her significant contributions in breastfeeding advocacy. She is an instructor for the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition (KBC), and delivers Spanish-language lactation education. Over the past six years, Carmen has worked and volunteered with local, regional, state, and national organizations to improve breastfeeding outcomes and expand culturally responsive support. She has completed multiple community-based projects with her local coalition and served as an independent contractor for KBC since 2019. Under her leadership, the KBC and LLSWKS successfully implemented all seven recommendations from the NACCHO Continuity of Care in Breastfeeding Support Blueprint, an effort that improved collaboration and access to care across the region. Her previous experience as a doula, midwife’s assistant, and childbirth educator strengthens the depth and quality of her work in the field of lactation.
