Families Need Our Help

The ongoing federal government shutdown is now one of the longest in U.S. history, and Kansan families are feeling the strain. With federal staff furloughed and critical programs paused, thousands of babies, parents, and caregivers across our state are at risk of losing access to the basic supports that sustain health and development.

What You Can Do Right Now

1. Support Local Food Pantries and Programs.

SNAP normally provides 9 meals for every 1 provided by food pantries and local organizations can’t fill that gap alone. Donate to a local food pantry or donate here. In general, it’s better to make a monetary donation than to donate food. Food pantries can often buy in bulk, stretching their funds to help more people.

2. Stay Informed

  • Check out this post from Kansas Action for Children with the latest programs affected.
  • WIC officials in Kansas are working tirelessly to keep clinics open and benefits active as long as possible. They will provide updates through their website, texts to participants, and clinic communications.

3. Connect lactating families to support

Please share our local resource directory so families can find other sources of support near them.

4. Contact Kansas’ Congressional Delegation.

Tell them babies and families need immediate action to fund WIC, SNAP, and Head Start.
