Hello Friends of the KBC!
Welcome to my favorite month in my favorite season! How are you? How is life going for you? My life is going well, and I am grateful as I write you the last letter as Chair of the Board of the KBC, this season. I say “this season” because none of us knows what life will bring and thankfully, I chose to remain open to it all. I hope you too remain open to whatever life offers.
So, yes, this is my last letter as later this month my term as Chair will end and Stephanne Rupnicki will be the Chair of the Board. I believe most of you know who Stephanne is as she is returning to this position having served as the Chair in 2021-2022. But if you do not yet know Stephanne, let me tell you, you are in for a treat! Stephanne is a wonderful, kind, sincere, authentic person with a beautiful heart. I am excited for the KBC that she is going to be Chair of our Board of Directors. Serving with Stephanne will be some of us who have already been on the Board, as well as three new members! What? How great is that! We all get to meet and know new friends as we carry out our mission to improve the health and well-being of Kansas by working collaboratively to promote, protect and support breastfeeding and human milk feeding in Kansas.
Part of what is helping us to achieve this mission is our work towards KBC being an anti-racist organization. As I have talked about before, the Board and Staff have been working with Rooted Strategy on our journey to be an anti-racist organization. However, the KBC is not just the Board and Staff; it is all you/us, breast and human milk feeding champions. And you have an opportunity to work with and learn from Rooted Strategy. As you register for our upcoming KBC Conference later this month, I invite and encourage you to sign up to attend the half-day session with Rooted Strategy on Wednesday October 16th from 1-5pm. And hurry – registration closes on October 7th! You will not regret it.
I look forward to seeing you in a few weeks at the pre-Conference on October 16th, at the Conference on the 17th, at the 80s Prom Gala on the 17th and of course on October 18th. We have a wonderful time planned for you with a balance of work and learn and play and fun.
Guess what everyone? I just learned that this letter from the Chair is supposed to be two paragraphs! Haha! I guess I missed reading that part of my “job suggestions.” So, I will say peace out everyone … before I add another paragraph … and see you soon!
Sincerely and gratefully,
Susan Lukwago
