The Global Breastfeeding Scorecard has been updated. It examines performance on critical indicators of the seven policy priorities identified by the Global Breastfeeding Collective at national and global level. Each action has 1-2 progress indicators and targets – to be met by 2030 – which serve as a call for action for policymakers worldwide to make breastfeeding support a collective national priority

Some key results of the 2022 Scorecard include:

• Encouraging progress on the percentage of infants under six months of age exclusively breastfed reaching 48%, ten percentage points higher than 10 years ago and close to the World Health Assembly target of 50% 
• Donor funding remains inadequate, with only 7% of countries (only in Africa and Asia) receiving at least US $5 per birth to support breastfeeding programmes. 
• Progress in implementing the Code, with seven new countries having legislation substantially aligned with the Code. 
• Only 10% of countries meet the recommended standard of providing 18 weeks of maternity leave with 100% pay, covered by public funds.
• Only 20% of countries legislate mandatory provision of paid breaks and nursing facilities.
